SOHO House

SOHO House

Nick Jones founded Soho House, a global hotel chain and hospitality group, in 1995. He designed it primarily as a private members’ club for individuals in the creative industries. As a result, membership remains highly selective, focusing on professionals in media, arts, and fashion.

Origins and growth

The company recently rebranded from Soho House Group to Soho House & Co. Today, it operates numerous clubs, hotels, and venues worldwide. However, it all started with a single location at 40 Greek Street in Soho, London, above Jones’ restaurant, Café Boheme. This first house, in turn, sparked the creation of a growing international chain.

By March 2024, the hotel chain counts 42 club locations globally and continues to expand. Importantly, the company prioritizes members’ creative contributions over their wealth or titles, thereby fostering a community that actively adds value to society.

Key milestones

In 1998, Soho House opened Babington House, its first one-bedroom establishment, in a Grade II-listed Georgian manor in Somerset. That same year, the company launched its first Cowshed spa, converting an old cowshed on the Babington House grounds into a luxurious retreat.

Subsequently, the chain expanded in 2002 with Electric House, which included the Electric Cinema in Notting Hill, London—one of the UK’s oldest cinemas. Then, the first house entered the United States in 2003, opening its first house in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, New York.

Two years later, the company opened Cecconi’s, an authentic Italian restaurant in Mayfair, London. Following this, High Road House in Chiswick, London, opened in 2006, with Shoreditch House in East London opening the next year.

In 2010, Soho House Berlin debuted as the company’s first European house. Meanwhile, Soho House West Hollywood opened, soon followed by a beach house in Miami. Later, in 2012, Soho House Toronto and Little House Mayfair in London welcomed members.

The Chicago house opened in 2014. Then, in 2015, the company launched Soho Works, offering members collaborative workspaces in London, New York, and Los Angeles.

Since then, the company has continued to grow annually, adding new houses worldwide. Notably, in 2018, Soho House introduced a membership for individuals without a nearby house, granting access to multiple locations when they travel.

Interior, lighting, art, and furniture

Soho House provides a distinct experience for its members. For example, its cosy, home-like furniture inspired an online shop, where members can purchase lighting, artwork, and furniture for their own homes. Moreover, the design team launches new collections each season, allowing members to continually refresh their interiors.
