SOHO House

SOHO House

SOHO House, a global hotel chain and hospitality group, was founded by Nick Jones in 1995. Its primary purpose is to serve as a private members’ club for individuals in the creative industries. Membership is highly selective, targeting professionals from the media, arts, and fashion sectors.

Origins and Growth

Recently, the company rebranded from SOHO House Group to SOHO House & Co. It now operates numerous clubs, hotels, and venues worldwide. However, it all began with a single location at 40 Greek Street in Soho, London, situated above Nick Jones’ restaurant, Café Boheme. This marked the inception of a burgeoning chain of SOHO Houses.

As of March 2024, SOHO House boasts 42 club locations globally. There are plans for further expansion. Membership prioritizes individuals’ creative contributions over their net worth or titles. This fosters a community of people who add value to society.

Historical Milestones

In 1998, SOHO House opened Babington House, its first one-bedroom establishment, in a Grade II-listed Georgian manor in Somerset. That same year, the company launched its first Cowshed spa. This luxurious addition was situated in an old cowshed on the grounds of Babington House.

In 2002, SOHO House expanded by opening an Electric House, which included an Electric Cinema in Notting Hill, London. This cinema is one of the oldest in the UK. The company expanded into the United States in 2003, opening SOHO House New York in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.

Two years later, SOHO House opened Cecconi’s, an authentic Italian restaurant in Mayfair, London. In 2006, the company opened High Road House in Chiswick, London. This was followed by the opening of Shoreditch House in East London the next year.

In 2010, SOHO House Berlin became the first House on the European continent. That same year, the company opened SOHO House West Hollywood. This was followed by SOHO Beach House in Miami. In 2012, SOHO House Toronto and Little House Mayfair in London were opened.

SOHO House Chicago opened in 2014. The following year, SOHO Works was launched to provide members with a workspace alongside like-minded individuals. Today, SOHO Works has locations in London, New York, and Los Angeles.

Nearly every year, a new SOHO House opens somewhere in the world, continually growing the SOHO House community. In 2018, SOHO House launched a membership that allows individuals without a nearby House to join the community. This membership grants access to SOHO Houses when they travel.

SOHO Interior, Lights, Art, and Furniture

SOHO House offers a unique service to its members. The cosy and home-like furniture found in SOHO Houses worldwide has inspired an online shop. Here, members can purchase SOHO House furniture, artwork, and lighting for their own homes. Each season, the SOHO House design team produces new collections, allowing members to continually refresh their interiors.
