In 1988, Paul Koole founded Koole Contractors, an innovative demolition and salvage company that has expanded across four countries. With a team of 250 employees and numerous freelancers, Koole Contractors is transforming the global landscape. The company operates in diverse locations, including Libya, Nigeria, the Caribbean, Suriname, and Sweden.
Visionary leadership
Under the leadership of Paul Koole, KOOLE Contractors comprises four divisions: Maritime, Construction, Industrial, and Environmental. The Maritime division forms the foundation of the company, from which the other divisions have organically evolved over the years. Maritime focuses on wreck removals and salvage operations. The Construction division emerged when the need arose to salvage an exploded tanker and simultaneously repair a quay wall. This branch specializes in construction work within the maritime sector, such as building mooring docks and shore protection.
Industrial prowess
The Industrial division prepares construction sites and removes industrial objects. The fourth division, Environmental, is the environmental arm of KOOLE Contractors, originating from the necessity to remove hazardous materials like asbestos and polluted soil during facility demolitions. Environmental now handles the containment and removal of substances harmful to both humans and the environment, both on water and land.
Specialized equipment
Specialized and, when necessary, floating equipment forms the basis of all international projects in the various divisions. KOOLE Contractors always seeks innovative solutions to execute tasks faster and more straightforwardly, minimizing manual labor. For this purpose, KOOLE Contractors has developed numerous types of new equipment, ranging from remotely operated excavators to asbestos vacuum trucks to specialized machinery. These are exclusively developed and utilized for the operations of KOOLE Contractors.
Sustainability
Sustainability is central to all endeavors. KOOLE Contractors strives to conduct all its activities in an environmentally friendly manner. The company plants hundreds of trees, installs solar panels, and transitions its employees to electric vehicles. Additionally, a farm is currently under development on the main office premises, exemplifying KOOLE Contractors’ commitment to being a nature-friendly company.
Noteworthy project
An example of a green project by KOOLE Contractors is the clearance and demolition of the ADM site in the Western port area of Amsterdam. Upon completion, the company plans to establish not only the first green demolition terminal in Europe but also the largest. From mid-2020 onwards, sea vessels and drilling platforms will be dismantled in the most environmentally friendly manner possible. All materials will be reused, and the use of electric machines will minimize the release of CO2 and exhaust emissions
